Because I kinda want one. Even though it goes completely against what I’ve been saying and telling myself that I want in my next car that I’m planning on working towards in the next year that I put in my “car goals” list.

I told myself 6 specific things:

NO MORE 4-POTS. MOAR CYLINDERS

No Sub-3.0L motors

NO BOOST/NA BRO

RWD

Manual or good auto (good as in ZF 8-speed good)

AutoX bro

This SOB breaks 2 of the 4 requirements. And yet, I’m enticed by these sounds for some reason.... -_-

And I’ve driven one so I know what it’s capable of and then some. And yet, it’s just a damn conundrum. Probably because I’ve partially accepted that the V6 is probably a lost cause, but still....The hell K-Roll?? (O_o)

I can’t say I’d ever be in the market for one (though that’s what I used to say about all Mustangs before I bought one), but I cannot fathom why these are not more popular. It’s the BRZ/FR-S formula with the power everyone said that particular car needed so badly.

Kinja'd!!!

6 bangers.

3.2l

N/A for days

RWD

Manual

Auto-it’s an M3-cross.

So I’ve met all your requirements (again, last time it was a B5 S4) so I look forward to hearing why this is a terrible idea because nothing makes sense Stateside.

And that’s one I’d firmly say “hell no” to even if it was given to me. I’ve driven one of those and dammit I enjoyed the SMG but hell no. A friend has one as a DD in the 100k+ miles and he’s fortunate his dad is a mechanic. (O_o)

These are actually a ton of fun to drive. I am more used to the 5.0L but every once in a while I hop in a 4 banger and love it. I don’t think you would be disappointed.

As I said nothing makes sense Stateside. What do you guys do that causes German cars to just give up the go as much as they allegedly do?

If that’s all you’re concerned about, the Ecoboost Mustang has a better hp/curb weight ratio than the FT, because math.

FT - 2764 lbs, 200 hp = 13.82 lb/hp

Ecoboost - 3532 lbs, 310 hp = 11.39 lb/hp

Not that tiny. I know I can fit in just about any vehicle made, but that doesn’t mean I’d enjoy driving it.

Kinja'd!!!1

I know they’re a ton of fun to drive. They just don’t “sound” a ton of fun to drive. I’ve heard them stock and they sound like vacuums, I’ve heard many aftermarket setups and they sound farty. I finally found a setup I like in muffler and resonator delete, but since I’ve owned nothing but 4 cylinder cars, I swore off another 4 cyl in the next car since I’ve always wanted a V8 DD eventually. But now I realize it would honestly be crazy and financially dumb to ever consider a V8 in a fun car. There’s no winning compromise and sturf.

Well, if I’m honest, SMG problems, ,some other random things, and he tried supercharging it once...That car has been through some hell. :-/

That does not make it better to drive. By that logic, a pickup makes a better sports car than an NA Miata.

I also don’t get why European cars have such bad reliability in America. VW’s get a reputation for dependability in Europe whilst they are considered a joke in the US.

Weight is still weight. A Rolls-Royce Wraith has a power-weight ratio of 8.64 lb/hp. By comparison the current Lotus Elise S (supercharged) has 9.29 lb/hp.

None of us on this side do. Couple that to whole Americans cars are reliable revelation, I’m properly confused. The only logical conclusion I can come up with is that the Atlantic ocean has a mystical property that erodes car reliability during transit.

Kinja'd!!! MultiplaOrgasms > Vicente Esteve
02/09/2016 at 18:03

Kinja'd!!!0

Oh, ten years ago VW had just as bad a reputation for reliability in Europe as it did in America.

Kinja'd!!! Zip-McBump > Jordan and the Slowrunner, Boomer Intensifies
02/09/2016 at 18:06

Kinja'd!!!0

Actually, that logic doesn’t lead to that apples-to-oranges conclusion at all. In my experience, people will defend what they like, often at the expense of logic and rationality. Frankly, I don’t care, as I’ve driven both cars, but own neither.

My initial point (and the only one salient to K-roll’s post) was that the Eco is an abundant, affordable, and quick RWD car that seems to check most of the Jalop boxes.

But seriously, the only explanation I have is that they are better maintained by their owners.

there is another one (esp for VW)

a good chunk of the VW in the US are made in mexico. And i’m straight up doing to say it. they do NOT know to to screw a car together like the germans. not to mention their QC is much less stringent then the germans.

Mexican made VW owner here (mk7 Golf). I did think that they would screw up the quality of the MK7 Golf but I am pleasantly surprised when I drive it and it still hasn’t developed a single rattle after 20K kms. The interior feels amazingly solid, and not a single mechanical issue has come up. I know it’s very lightly used, but my mothers Expedition needed warranty work in the first month of ownership.

I KNEW YOU’D COME AROUND K-ROLL! I remember having a friendly debate with you about the ecoboost Mustangs when they were first announced! haha

Even one of my friends who is a diehard V8 man has come to accept and love the 4 pot Mustangs. And he’s only owned V8 cars in the past/currently. He had a 89 Fox for his first car, a 83 Capri, a 99 Cobra and now an 03 Cobra. He’s seriously considering trading in his 03 Cobra and his motorcycle to snag an ecoboost Mustang.

Kinja'd!!!0

But I’ve driven 3 V8 cars and still never owned a V8....At least your friend has had at least one. -_-

But I’m coming to terms that my idea of a V8 DD Mustang may never come true after all, it’s an unhappy compromise on sound, displacement, port injection instead of annoying ticking DI, and cylinder count...Why does being rational and smart have to be so damn depressing :(

Also, where’ve you been? I haven’t seen you on here in a while.

You’ll own a V8 at some point in your life, I know it. And you’ve come this far in accepting the ecoboost Mustang so I’m sure you’ll grow to appreciate it even more!

I’ve been really absent over the past...shoot maybe 8(?) months because of working more than full time, picking up new positions and going to school as well. Combine that with the fact that Oppo just isn’t what it used to be and, I don’t find myself around here too often anymore.
